Art Meets Technology:

How Colordrops Helped Bring a Contemporary Venus to Life

When artist Marius Bercea envisioned a sculptural centrepiece for his exhibition New Tenant | Sunshine Noir, he imagined a figure at the intersection of irony, beauty, and modern alienation — a Venus in pajamas, seated in a giant retro burger. Our role was to make this vision not only real, but transportable, durable, and true to the emotional and symbolic language of the exhibition.

At Colordrops, we bring props-making craftsmanship into the world of fine art — combining handwork, custom design, and modern fabrication methods to build sculptural works that stand up in any space, from set to gallery.

The Process

Creative + Technical Breakdown:

  • Custom 3D modeling & printing: Our talented artists sculpted a digital model of the figurine, which was later printed and prepared for casting.
  • Silicone mold & resin casting: To ensure a precise and reproducible form, we moulded the 3D print in silicone and cast the final figure in durable resin.
  • Traditional oil painting: The figurine was hand-painted by our artist Sergiu, using classical oil techniques to give it depth, texture, and a painterly, retro finish.
  • Burger & base structure: Made from CNC-cut polystyrene, reinforced and coated with a protective membrane for structure and longevity.
  • Unified painting pass: All elements were color-matched and treated with surface finishes to maintain visual coherence and match the artist’s vintage-inspired palette.

Aesthetic Vision

The piece draws visual cues from American mid-century advertising, pop culture, and religious iconography — creating a hybrid Venus that is both ironic and iconic. Our material and finish choices were designed to support this layered visual language while keeping the sculpture lightweight and modular.

Built for Mobility

As part of the long-term vision, the entire piece was constructed to allow easy assembly and disassembly, so it can travel to future exhibitions with minimal setup time and without compromising visual integrity.

Gratitude & Collaboration

This installation was the result of deep creative collaboration. We are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside:

  • Marius Bercea, for his trust and visionary concepts
  • Tevz Logar, for curating a space where such ideas thrive
  • Jecza Gallery, for facilitating this ambitious collaboration
  • Radu Abraham, for designing the custom wooden base that anchors the piece with both aesthetic and structural intention
  • And our in-house team, who brought together artistic skill and technical precision at every stage of the process.

Colordrops: Supporting New Visions in Art

We believe in building more than just objects — we build visual language. Through hybrid techniques, deep listening, and technical craft, we support artists in shaping the physical vocabulary of contemporary culture.

If your project blurs the lines between art, sculpture, and storytelling — we’d love to be part of the process.
